The Australasian Services Care Network, along with its partners and supporters, invite you to join them for Session 12 in the “Virtual International Colloquium on Military Sexual and Other Forms of Abuse”.

This Colloquium brings together a range of international thought leaders to help participants to explore the issue of Military Sexual and Other Forms of Abuse and its impact on military Service members, veterans and their immediate families across the 5 Eyes Countries. This conversation aims to shine a light on this issue and share evidence-informed responses and interventions to addressing Military Sexual and Other Forms of Abuse and support those affected.

Session Twelve is titled Canadian Sexual Misconduct Class Action: Lessons Learnt”. The session features talks from Second Lieutenant (Retired) Christine Wood, Leading Seaman (Retired) Nadine Schultz-Nielsen, and Dr Maya Eichler Register.

Attendees will hear about a brief overview of the history of the Heyder-Beattie Sexual Misconduct Class Action initiated by seven former members of the Canadian Armed Forces against the crown for sexual assault, sexual harassment and discrimination based on sex/gender or sexual orientation. It led in 2019 to a $900 million-dollar (Canadian) settlement and a precedent setting restorative engagement program and two sets of related consultations.
