Female Veterans’ physical healthcare needs and support preferences

The Centre for Military Women’s Research, through a through a collaboration with King’s Centre for Military Health Research, the Royal British Legion, the Veterans’ Trauma Network (Imperial College London) and the Defence Medical Welfare Service, funded by the Veterans’ Health Innovation Fund (OVA), will use a mixed methods approach to assess the prevalence of physical comorbidities among female veterans, their healthcare needs, and their preferences for service delivery. 

Aim

This research project aims to improve the currently limited understanding of UK female Veterans’ physical healthcare needs and support preferences and utilise the resulting findings to provide recommendations for developing and improving care pathways and service delivery for female Veterans in the UK.

Method

The project will include quantitative analysis examining the prevalence of physical health conditions using UK Biobank data of approximately 580 female veterans between the age 40-69 years. The data contains information on self-reported physical health conditions/symptoms and inpatient hospitalizations. A qualitative analysis of approximately 40 female Veterans who report a physical health conditions, illness, or injury will also be conducted.
