The Experiences of Military Cadets and Personnel in Higher Education
This study aims to consider the culture of military education in Britain, and its relationship with higher education and institutions. This falls into two areas of exploration: first, the learning experiences of cadets as they progress through university degrees; second, the retraining of former military personnel in civilian programmes. In both cases, aim is to explore how military training and experiences shapes the learning of students compared to civilian students, and to identify the differences in Britain's models of civilian and military education. This would form an important component in the continued work being carried out by the Centre for Military Research, Education and Public Engagement, from which further research could be launched.
This research project has been drawn up with consultation from Prof Gerri Matthews-Smith of Edinburgh Napier University, and Dr Suzie Dick of Queen Margaret University, both of whom have agreed to act as supervisors.
